How to become an ISTDP Therapist?

To become an effective ISTDP Therapist, specific training is recommended due to the complexity of this highly effective approach to achieving deep and lasting therapeutic change.

While therapists often report significant positive changes in their work, from the beginning of training in ISTDP, it takes detailed theoretical knowledge, and skill, to be able to work at the level that brings about marked and stable change, including the thorough re-working and resolution of attachment trauma.

The three-year Core Training in ISTDP is considered the most effective means of becoming a competent ISTDP Therapist.   The International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association (IEDTA) recognises and certifies some Core Trainings and has specific requirements for a certified Core Training in ISTDP.   Training groups meet at regular intervals over a three-year period, and cover content relevant to becoming effective at practising ISTDP.

Why train with Julie Cochrane and Johannes Ermagan

Both Julie and Johannes are passionate about ISTDP and have spent many years learning not only to use ISTDP to bring about deep change in patients, but to teach and supervise in this model.

To date, Julie has taught 18 three-year Core Trainings in ISTDP, and many one-, two- and three-day workshops in ISTDP.   She is described as a XXXX (something from the testimonials).

Johannes has also taught not only Core Trainings in ISTDP, but introduced ISTDP to adult psychiatry, and is a popular presenter for one-day ISTDP trainings.

Julie and Johannes have collaborated in practising and teaching ISTDP for over eight years and are described as having teaching styles that are strongly supportive and complementary.
